Hawaii
Day 1
We arrived at Honolulu airport at about 7.30 pm and were greeted as we left the plane to be shuttled to our hotel, the greeting included being given an orchid lei. Plan for the next day was going to be a relaxing swim on Waikiki Beach and organize our days ahead. We actually went for a walk down to the beach after we settled in at the hotel to get our bearings and pick up a few supplies at the supermarket. Janelle and I couldn’t believe how much Waikiki has changed in the 20 yrs since we had been here last.
Had a Sleep in for our first morning, had breakfast and then headed to the beach for a swim. We couldn’t believe that we were having temperatures of 28, when we were in minus 10 a day before and going from thermal underwear and ski gear to boardshorts and T- Shirt.
After swimming we did a tour of the main strip and had some Chinese at a great diner for lunch. The restaurant was suggested as a great eating place in our Lonely Planet Travel book. Later we arranged a car for the next 3 days to tour the Island and booked to go to the Polenesian Cultural Centre on Monday.
Seeing we enjoyed lunch so much, we set out later that evening for dinner at another selection of the travel book at a place called Moose McGillicutty’s after the kids had a swim in the resorts pool.

Hey Mick and family,
It's Simone here. I can't believe you're already in Hawaii. I should have given you this info before, but better late than never. If you want some good shopping catch a shutttle out to Waikele where there's a bunch of outlets(you will need a whole day there). You'll find my favourite place, Old Navy, which has clothes for everyone, plus Levis, Osh Kosh, Nine West shoes, and heaps more.
A great place to eat in Waikiki is the Cheesecake Factory, which is on the main drag.
If you get out to Ala Moana, there's a Bubba Gump's there. I remember you enjoyed that place in LA.
And as far as a great positioned restaurant, try Shore Birds in the Outrigger Reef on the Beach. It's right on the beach. But you need to get there early to get a seat near the sand. It's a BBQ your own (or, as they say, broil your own). Perfect for sunsets if you can time it right.
Just wanted to tell you that I've loved reading your blog. It sounds like you guys have had such a blast. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. We are looking forward to hearing all about it when you get back (I am sure you probably don't want to come back, and I can't say I blame you!). You'll have to try and catch up on the tan now that you're in Hawaii!
Take care.
Have Fun.
Simone
